Halloween, a contraction of All Hallows’ Eve, is an annual holiday, celebrated each year on October 31. Halloween or Hallowe’en, also known as Allhalloween, All Hallows’ Eve, or All Saints’ Eve, is a spooky celebration observed on the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows’ Day, also known as All Saints’ Day. Americans love Halloween, but we celebrate it too (though not officially). The festival marked the end of summer and the beginning of the dark wintertime, a time of year that was often associated with human death.
Over time, Halloween evolved into a day of activities like trick-or-treating, carving jack-o-lanterns, lighting bonfires and wearing costumes. People dress up in costumes and go house to house requesting for food or money, a practice that ultimately became today’s “trick-or-treat” custom. Halloween has lost most of its superstitious and religious overtones, which were practiced in colonial time. It was believed the spirits of the dead damage crops on this eve and play tricks on the living. But, today people celebrate it with great joy and enthusiasm.
With Halloween around the corner, we all are looking for our makeup and costume ideas.
