I get many queries from fellow bloggers who are confused and troubled just like I used to be a month ago. I answered them personally but realized there are many people with same questions, so I have come up with the idea to blog queries. Here’s the 2nd post in this category.
Question 1. I am apparently using FREE PLAN. So, after I host it from Bluehost, do I need to turn to PREMIUM PLAN?
- Answer: WordPress.com & WordPress.org are different entities. Self-hosting is equal to WordPress.org. If you go for self-hosting then you don’t need to buy a plan from WordPress.com. You can self-host your site via hosting from any company. Get a hosting, domain and then you can add WordPress in your hosting panel and transfer your WordPress free blog posts to your new site with plugins.
Question 2. If I ever wish to switch back to wordpress.com, is that possible?
- Answer: Once you transfer your posts & followers to your new self-hosted site then I am not sure if you can transfer them back. If you upgrade your plan via wordpress.com then yes you can always go back.
Question 3. I won’t ask how much do you earn, but could you give an idea that at least what number of views per month are required to earn an amount? (Only google ads and affiliations) (Rough Idea)
- Answer: Google ads pay you per click but you’ll get the money only when you will earn least 100$. For monetization purpose, I recommend you not to depend on Google Adsense solely. Expect 10k page views per month to make your Adsense & Affiliations work for you.
Question 4. Those who self-host, like you – Your posts no more appear in WordPress reader tab. Neither is there any ‘follow’ button on your website, just a subscribe button. Doesn’t Bluehost allow to appear on WordPress reader and have a follow button? Didn’t it lessen the number of views?
- Answer: The reason why Self-hosted sites no more appear in WordPress Reader, is WordPress itself. WordPress doesn’t allow self-hosted sites to have a comment section on their App. But they can be followed from the app. No, it doesn’t affect page views but yes very few people will make comment from your site.
If you have your own questions in mind, you can post your queries in the comment section below or send me a mail via Contact Page.

If you had a wordpress dot com account and move to self-hosting with wordpress dot org, and keep your dot com active, your posts will still appear in the reader.
Yea my posts used to appear on the reader in starting but now they don’t appear anymore…
Thank you so much, Falak. I got quite my doubts cleared. So very glad that on request, you came to my rescue. Thanks much. <3
My Pleasure! Hope you make a wise decision!
I hope too. <3
Thanks for the useful tips Falak 😊
Always welcome
Interesting… I’ve also wondered whether it’s possible to upgrade
while keeping the free blog active? Would that dual-blogging effort
be referred to as mirroring? Seems (to me) like it might be a good
way to maintain features, such as: “likes” and the “reblog” button?
Thanks MissTA 🙂 💜 Jackie@KWH
